Environmentalisation
Plant refurbishing intended to mitigate environmental impact.
EWC
Acronym that stands for European Waste Catalogue
The EWC code is a number consisting of three sets of two digits that identify the type of waste according to origin and is taken from the catalogue, The first set identifies the chapter while the second usually identifies the production cycle.
Fossil fuel fired thermo-electric power station
A fossil fuel fired power station is a station at which the primary energy deriving from solid, liquid or gaseous fuels is transformed into electric energy. All thermal power stations are of this kind, including steam-electric, gas turbine, internal combustion engine and combined heat and power stations.
Fossil fuels
These include coal, petroleum and natural gas. Today, they account for almost all world energy consumption.
Fume abatement
Set of processes intended to reduce pollutants in fumes to permissible values. At the moment, the most widely-used methods include electrostatic precipitators for dust removal and wet or dry scrubbing systems for reduction of gases.
Green certificates
A production certificate issued by the national transmission network operator (GRTN) for electricity produced using renewable sources of energy (duration 8 years). Indicates the amount of renewable energy produced by each plant. Each producer/importer of energy is required to put into the system a minimum green energy quota equivalent to at least 2% of the non-renewable energy produced/imported. They can comply with this obligation constructing and managing plants powered by renewable sources or acquiring "green certificates” from companies in possession of these. The price of the certificates is determined by the demand and offer of these and is managed on a real “energy exchange”.
High voltage (HV)
This category comprises all the systems with a nominal voltage of more than 1000 Vac and 1500 Vdc (CEI EN 50110-1). This term is usually used to indicate 130KV or higher electricity transmission and distribution networks.
