Green certificates
A production certificate issued by the national transmission network operator (GRTN) for electricity produced using renewable sources of energy (duration 8 years). Indicates the amount of renewable energy produced by each plant. Each producer/importer of energy is required to put into the system a minimum green energy quota equivalent to at least 2% of the non-renewable energy produced/imported. They can comply with this obligation constructing and managing plants powered by renewable sources or acquiring "green certificates” from companies in possession of these. The price of the certificates is determined by the demand and offer of these and is managed on a real “energy exchange”.
